The (Quadrennial) Leap Day Flash Fiction Prize
w/ Guest Judge David James Poissant!
The Indianola Review is celebrating the leap year in 2016 by awarding more than $1,300 in prizes to a few outstanding flash fiction stories! Grand Prize Winner announced February 29!
GRAND PRIZE WINNER RECEIVES:
$1,000
Publication in our March 2016 issue
A one-year print subscription
All the publicity we can scrape together
FIVE FINALISTS WILL RECEIVE:
$50 and a one-year print subscription
Please read our CONTEST GUIDELINES before submitting:
No genre or form restrictions. We love traditional flash, genre flash, strange flash—all flash fiction, really. We do not love erotica, gratuitous violence for the sake of violence, profanity for the sake of pro—well, you get it. Let's keep our edginess purposeful, please.
Word Count: Up to 1,000 words per entry. The number of stories is up to you, but entries exceeding 1,000 words will not be read. Your best story should be your entry. If you have more than one "best" story (perhaps in multiple genres?), and you can fit them in one entry, go nuts. We will carefully read and consider everything you give us.
Use Standard Formatting, Please: 12-pt font, double-spaced.
IMPORTANT: All Entries will be read blind. Please: Absolutely no identifying information in the file name or the document itself.
Multiple Entries: You can enter three times, we suppose, but why not just send us your best once and be done with it?
Your entry fee goes a little further at The Indianola Review. We will provide feedback on every submission received. If you submit multiple stories in one entry, we will comment on what we considered to be the strongest story. This service is optional.
Deadline: 11:59 P.M. (CST) - January 31st.
Six Finalists announced February 15th and forwarded to Mr. Poissant for final consideration. All submissions read blind by our staff and Mr. Poissant.
Grand Prize Winner announced February 29th - Leap Day, of course.
Entry Fee: $20.00
All entries will be considered for publication.
Eligibility Disclaimer: Close personal acquaintances, family, and students of David James Poissant are ineligible to enter. Close personal acquaintances and family members of The Indianola Review staff are ineligible to participate.
